Family Recollections - My March Prayer Flag

Prayer Flag Project
Susan Ernst·Mar 31, 2024· 2 minutes

Early Spring brings fresh young greens and yellows in various shades and hues to the landscape.  These are the main colors used in my prayer flag this month.

Overall, March was warm and bright so I chose cheery vintage fabrics to work with.

have a collection of vintage buttons which belonged to family members or I found at estate sales. Some have been gifted to me. When I saw these yellow buttons and laid them on top of the strip of green fabric, I was instantly transported back in time to Easter, 1968. I clearly remember everything about my bright lemon yellow and lime green dress and jacket with matching patent leather shoes and purse! And look at those lime green stockings! I even remember the feel of the pattern on them.

Susan and Peter, Easter Sunday, 1968?

As I stitched, I spent time in recollection of this period in my life. I spent time in thought will my Mom and Dad, and with my Grandmother. Some of the vintage fabric belonged to her.

Hanging outside now, these cherished memories are carried off by the wind. Do they travel to the souls of these beloved family members who have long since left this world?  I like to think so.

Would you like to make prayer flags along with me? I hope you are inspired to! You can find the details here.
